Making a Swan Neck for a Libre VMax

Thanks to Richard (Hotrodder) from racekites.com for making my swan neck for my Libre.

Here's how he did it.

Firstly you need to find the height that you want the seat to be at once you have your swan neck. This was achieved by a simple wooden block which was sloped on one edge.

Next Richard cut from a piece of scrap steel 3 pieces of plate, 40mm wide to represent the profile of the downtube. Once clamped in position, we could determine the angles required.

The marked and cut plates are a good guide....

NOTE the different angles, these are to prevent the rake & angle of the forks altering.

Next the plate angles were transferred onto the downtube and set the first cut.

After all the cuts were done the swan neck was laid out to get an idea of how it would look.

next the swan neck was spot welded into position.

Once we were happy that it wes square and true,

it was welded up and we fitted it to the buggy for the first time.

Next the cleaning up of the swanny......

Various grades of carbonfibre polishing belts were used in this process.

Considering the swanny had been sandblasted in its original form,

Richard achieved a good finish.

But it had to be better, So he decided to polish it some more.......

Finaly done, it was refitted to the buggy......

Many many thanks to Richard and his wife for their hospitality whilst this was undertaken.
