Tailgate Rack
Since having my van, I've had to dismantle The Prowler in order to transport it.
For some time I'd been toying with the idea of a bike rack,
Modified, Just for The Prowler.
In a Junkshop in Exeter I came across one of these......
A T2 Bike Rack by Fiamma.
The guy in the junkshop only wanted £20 for it, so I bought it.
I knew it would be too long for My van, but after a quick measure up & 2 simple cuts,
I'd reduced the racks height by 15cm (150mm)
This made a perfect fit on the van tailgate.
The Prowler has a towing eye on the back axle which prevented
me using the bike mounts that were fitted.
So, I made a new mounting system from 2 pieces of 32mm O/D Aluiminium tube,
and 2 Jockey wheel clamps.
I also had to move the cross brace higher on the rack to prevent The Prowler
resting on the tailgate of my van.
I've wrapped some thin pieces of rubber around the axle of The Prowler,
Just to protect the paint.
The Prowler is very securely mounted & the rear lights and registration plate are clearly visible.
I'll be making and fitting wheel covers soon.
Just for extra visibility for other road users.
I'm happy with that.
