Buggy Rack.
Designed and built by Hotrodder from racekites.com
The design brief for Richard was a fairly simple one. I wanted a backrack fitted to the towbar of my car that would still enable me to use the towbar if needed.
Richard works mainly with stainless steel, so I knew whatever he made would look good.
We decided to make the permanent part of the rack fairly wide, some other racks I've seen mount on 2 vertical tubular inserts, whilst this is strong enough if the rack is behind a van or a fairly tall car, I felt it was not strong enough with the amount of wind that passes over my Mondeo.

The end supports for the rear axle of the buggy are seperate pieces that slide into the central box section.

The whole assembly

As an after thought, I've fitted "R" clips to the uprights.

The rear axle of the buggy, In this case my Libre Vmax, slides into the cutout and either a bolt or the barrow wheel hold it in place.

The downtube of the buggy is held in place by a shockcord

If I use the buggy with my Grasshopper tyres, I remove them prior to loading the buggy and put them in the boot. I felt there was too much weight swinging on the back of the car.

If I'm using barrows, the buggy is kept in one piece.

True to the design brief, I can still use a trailer too.

Many thanks once again to Richard for his craftmanship, and Lizzie for the wonderful food.
